Summary of the Tour
This tour take our visitors out to explore Tidbinbilla which is located only 40 minutes from the City. The experience combines nature with some of the highest levels of science.
Tidbinbilla is a special hidden little corner of the world. Discover the secrets both within our solar system and beyond with NASA’s Deep Space Communications Complex. Only three of these complexes exist worldwide with the others in Spain and America. Then it’s off to explore the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, which is home to many of Australia’s unique wildlife.
The tour includes a BBQ lunch.
Tidbinbilla Deep Space Communications Complex
The NASA Deep Space Communications Complex is home to a fascinating collection showcasing the history of space exploration. Home to the biggest communications dish in the Southern Hemisphere.
See an authentic piece of the moon brought back by none other than Buzz Aldren. The original dish that received the famous “One small step for man” speech by Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 13’s “Houston, we have a problem”.
This is a fascinating yet humbling place that will catch your imagination and then take it on a journey of discovery.
The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is nestled deep within the Namadgi National Park. Enjoy the nature walks where you will see Australian native animals in a beautiful natural backdrop. Kangaroos and emus can readily be seen roaming the grounds.
There are multiple nature walks within Tidbinbilla including the Sanctuary where the platypuses fossick around in the ponds. See koalas relaxing in the trees and wallabies hopping through the undergrowth of the Eucalypt Forest. You may even be fortunate enough to spot one of Australia’s few remaining Southern Brush Tailed Rock Wallabies.
If we time things well, we will catch the Pelican feeding which includes a meet and greet with a Tidbinbilla park ranger. They always have great insight into the Reserve and offer inside information on where to go to see the interesting wildlife.
The tour departs the City from various pick-up points in the morning and travels to the Nature Reserve via the newly built Cotter Dam. The tour takes the whole day so a barbecue lunch is provided. It is worth packing warm clothes and a hat to be prepared for any weather changes.
The Canberra morning tour and the afternoon tour complement the Tidbinbilla Tour. Book all three today and receive a discount!
The price includes all transport, admission to Tidbinbilla, and of course lunch.

Tour Reviews
Our tour to Tidbinbilla was awesome! We would not have been able to visit Tidbinbilla if we hadn’t gone with Blue Sky tours, and it is definitely worth a visit.
If you think you’re not interested in Astronomy, the Deep Space Exploration Centre will surprise you. We had never heard of it but really enjoyed looking around. If you like animals and nature or even just want to explore outside of the city for a bit then make sure you do this tour!
This tour was so much fun! My friend and I had been really excited to go explore Tidbinbilla and were pleased to find a tour group that takes you out there. We saw emus, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, pelicans, a musk duck (one of the only carnivorous ducks in the Country), and even caught a glimpse of a platypus! It was a real ‘Aussie’ experience! The walks were nice and the Deep Space Tracking Station was really cool. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide!!
This tour was wonderful! A colleague and I were in town for work and didn’t know how we’d get to Tidbinbilla or the Space Complex when Blue Skies graciously squeezed us in last minute! Our guide was very knowledgeable but also low key enough to know when to let us just quietly enjoy our experience. If you are in Canberra ever, I highly recommend signing up for this tour!
