Summary
The Blue Waterholes Adventure Tour takes us deep into the Northern tip of Kosciuszko National Park in Australia’s Alpine Ranges. The trip includes two popular walks along the scenic Clarke Gorge and Nichols Gorge.
The Clarke Gorge walk has a number of river crossings so be prepared to get your feet wet. The narrow gorge and cascades eventually lead you to some beautiful waterfalls. This provides a great photo opportunity and relax before heading back to camp.
The campsite itself is isolated so kangaroos, wallabies and Brumbies (wild horses) wonder around grazing on the flats nearby. In fact they will often wonder into the camp while grazing. Wild dogs also put on a howling show most evenings before nightfall. It is worth mentioning that the dogs will not come near camp so there is no danger.
The Nichols Gorge walk meanders in the opposite direction from Clarke Gorge and consists of caves which can be explored, a number of sinkholes and interesting prehistorical features such as fossils.
Our adventurers who like this walk should also consider our Camping and Hiking Adventure in the Budawangs.
Some information about the Blue Waterholes adventure tour
- Food for this trip is supplied by Blue Skies Adventure Tours. Please email us if you have any specific dietary needs.
- It is important to pack warm clothes and good quality walking shoes or boots. We provide the tents, sleeping bags with liners, and self-inflating sleeping mats. In addition, we provide a small camping kit including a light poncho for the rain, a highly absorbent microfibre hiking towel, spork (combination fork and spoon), wide brim hat, collapsible water bottle and a head torch. Adventurers keep the walking kit for themselves to use on the rest of their adventures in Australia (and of course to remind them of their best time in Australia).
- There is a lot of driving time to get to and from the Blue Waterholes so we endeavour to take frequent stops to ensure the comfort of our adventurers.
- Weather may affect the trip so keep an eye on incoming emails to see if there is a change in plans. Allow a few days either side of the trip to avoid disappointment.

Tour Reviews
I highly recommend the Blue Water Holes tour!! I had such a great time, a lots of fun and a really great adventure. Our guide was really passionate and knowledge about the area and wildlife. The provided food and drinks were just perfect, in the evening we had hot chocolate with marshmellows in front of the campfire!
The tour takes you to incredible beautiful places and its a must it if you are visiting Canberra. It was amazing to see the wild kangaroos and the wild horses so close! You just went to bed, its nice and cosy in your tent and then you can hear the wild horses neighing and running across the camping site, just right next to your tent! Its incredible, i´I felt like in a movie. And the best thing in the morning is to have a nice swim in the beautiful turquoise blue water.
I really really enjoyed my trip, thanks for the wonderful guide Alan.
that trip was amazing !!!
great guide, great location and good food 😉
Good for those who like to experience a trip beside those „typical tourist“ spots.
I would do it again every time!
So amazing from beginning to end. Everything was taken care of. There are beautiful walks in the day and a cozy campfire in the evening (including marshmallows and scary stories ). Highly recommended!
Canberra and its surroundings were such an awesome surprise… this tour is simply amazing! Everything about it was flawless: definitely reccomend to everyone!
I recommend the Blue Waterholes trip. Alan, the guide, shares his knowledge of the Australian nature. The barbecue and discussions around the campfire at night made the time pass too quickly. This trip allows you to be in contact with the Australian wild life, the kangaroos and wild horses come very close to the camp. The hike to the waterholes is quite easy and the landscapes are beautiful with some wonderful lookouts.
